An invitation was extended to the local community to come along and demonstrate what you can do on the decks. It wasn't actually a competition, though I did mistakenly make it sound like one.
There is a big split in the mobile DJ community between people who feel mixing skills are necessary and people who don't. I'm not going to go into my feelings except to say I was first up.
We had 4 DJs including myself offer to play sets. Sadly one had to drop out due to illness but we got a bunch of DJs to be our crowd and the remaining 3 put on a strong show. The real idea behind the night was to let some of the non-mixing DJs see the benefits, learns some of the basics, and of course for some enjoyment of the job we all love.
Other than myself Justin and Chris had agreed to do a set, I did a disco/house fusion which I consider a warm up kind of set. Justin did a general mix or party tunes with acapellas overlaid and some effects. Chris did one of his high energy clubland sets.
